Had to get Toyota to program key for car but saved me $350.00

We have a 2010 Corolla. It's got to be a 'Dot' key to work on Canadian models. If it has a 'G' or 'H' stamped, it won't. The set of pictures along the side of the Amazon add page for this key show a close up of what a 'Dot' key looks like, just like your original. I'm not sure if all 'Dot' keys will work, but this brand most definitely worked. It helps the locksmith if you get the Key Code for your VIN from Toyota. Then the key can be cut as an exact duplicate of the original as-new key. The first one we tried was copied from our worn out original. It would start the car, but wouldn't unlock the doors with either the remote or manually. The second time around, it was cut using the Key Code, and everything worked perfectly. We saved over $400 by using this key and a talented locksmith.

The key that came with the car when I bought it was in pretty rough shape so I thought I’d give this a go. My key had a dot on it, so I got this one and I took it to Lowe’s and they wouldn’t cut it (the lady said they don’t cut outside keys - I called BS but I wasn’t gonna fight her on it). Took it to Home Depot and they cut it for free. However, the replacement key blade was longer than my original key, so it cut the shape right but there was an extra ~3/16” of key on the top, so the key wouldn’t go all the way into the cylinder to operate the door or ignition. I traced the original key on a piece of paper, aligned it with the new key, colored the excess with sharpie and then ground the key down until it was the right length. Then it worked in the lock cylinders. Programming it was fine, and so now I have a good key and the original as a spare. If I didn’t need to grind the tip off the key myself I’d’a given it 5 stars.

I found many keys online, but they are all not the same. They may look the same but the internals are different. pay attention .I took it to get cut at home depot. They do not normally cut keys you bring. what i told them was to charge me for a regular key to be cut. i paid for the key cut according to key needed. they kept their key i got mine cut. I followed procedures on how to program key to my 2010 corolla. i was able to get it to open close doors but the immobilizer function needed further programing. I have a computer to program keys on vehicle and i was then able to program key to start car. if you don't have that computer, you will need to take it somewhere.

2011 Toyota Avalon-These must be programmed with an appropriate scan tool...(dealer or locksmith usually). My friend happens to have one but normally around $100 (CAD) at locksmith. They will also program your fob to operate the doors and trunk remotely etc...if you do it yourself this is a different process than using the scan tool to match the keys chip to cars computer...it is done through a series of action involving inserting and removing the key and opening and closing doors in a specific sequence. The Avalon sequence didn't work for my car,but I noticed that this key was also used in a 2008 Corolla and that is the sequence which ultimately gave my remotes their proper function. They work fine now 🙂.
